Los Osos High School
Band, Orchestra, & Color Guard
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is comprised of a full-instrumentation big band of approximately 30 students. The band performs literature representative of a wide variety of musical genres, including swing, latin, rock, and funk, just to name a few. Students are encouraged and coached in their abilities to improvise solos on their given instrument, as well as the ability to function as a valued member within this selective, one-on-a-part ensemble setting. Each semester this ensemble performs at various jazz festivals, school events, and civic functions throughout the greater community. For information on having the Jazz Band perform for your event, please contact Mr. Encina at: solomon.encina@cjuhsd.net.
PREREQUISITE:
An audition is required for placement into the Jazz Band. Auditions take place in May for the following school year, and in January to fill any personnel vacancies. Students who play in the jazz ensembles are also required to participate in the Regiment (marching band) in the fall semester and in one of the zero period concert bands.
